A Condemned Lily

It’s all about impeccable timing. Waiting for the young buds to plump, then plucked just before they unfurl into larger leaves. The precise moment jasmine buds are gathered for scenting. The measured time the young buds wither between five scenting sessions. The delicate act of how you, the last artist, time each steep from first wash to final flush.

Recommended for those who crave florals yet shy away from the tannic (bitter) bite of green tea, jasmine’s most common companion.

Serving Suggestion: start with 3-4 grams or 1 teaspoon in 8 ounces of water at 212 degrees Fahrenheit (boiling) then steep for 3-4 minutes. Yes we said boiling water. Our silver needles remain whole pieces, a mark of quality, and are coated with fuzz, nature’s shield against the elements. High heat is essential to breach this barrier. Sometimes delicate things need a good scorching to unlock its full potential.

Manderley’s Secret Suggestion: using a ratio of 4 grams for every 6-8 ounces of water, let the tea leaves steep in room temperature or cold water for 24-48 hours. This gradual steep while avoiding high heat allows the more delicate notes to linger. Not all whites teas brew well using this method, but these jasmine silver needles are an exception. This method may yield to higher caffeine levels.
